4000 bomb deaths in Iraq, worth less then 3 killed in Boston Marathon Bombing?

A little  side note in the International Press:

a few dozen people bombed to death in Iraq, 2 days ago, for a total of 4000 in January to August 2013. Compare that the press reports about the 3 killed in the Boston Marathon bombing.

Also unmentioned:

  • the homicide rates in Iraq as a whole are lower then Detroit, Chicago, and even Washington DC homicide rates.
  • And the pacified half of Iraq, including Kurdistan, have homicide rates as low as Canada.

Similarly, thousands of black on black murders cause less headline then the single George Zimmerman case.

We will not comment. Make up your own mind about biased press and perceived dangers.

Iraq unrest: Eid al-Fitr bomb attacks kill dozens

More than 60 people have been killed and nearly 300 others wounded in a series of bomb attacks in Iraq.

Over 60 killed in one day

The violence came during celebrations for Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Muslims kill Muslims celebrating a holy day. Probably they will kill Muslims during funeral processions, again.

Most of the casualties were in the capital, Baghdad, which was hit by apparently co-ordinated car bombings near markets, cafes and restaurants.

This Ramadan in Iraq is thought to have been one of the deadliest in years, with more than 670 people killed.

670 killed in  a month

Most of the violence in the past six months has involved Sunni Islamist militant groups targeting Shia Muslim districts, although both Shia and Sunni areas were hit on Saturday.

More than 4,000 people have died in such attacks this year.

4000 bomb deaths this year, January to August. Out of a 35 Million population 2  1 US death is worth more press coverage then 1000 Iraqi deaths.

A further 9,865 have been injured, with Baghdad province the worst hit

In comparison, at the Boston Marathon Bombing we had

3 spectators killed and 264 casualties whose injuries were treated in 27 local hospitals. 4

3 dead in Boston cause more press coverage then 4000 dead in Iraq.

3 dead in Boston, among 320 Million Americans vs. 4000 among 35 Million Iraquis. 1300 times more casualties, or 12000 times more relative to the population.  This was in the first 8 1/2 month of 2013.  We should expect   5647 (4000*12/8.5) killed in all 2013 in Iraq.
