Ultrasound abortion laws, unconscious denial, beef and caged hen eggs

A few states, in a desperate attempt to create obstacles, require ultrasound before abortion. A few US states, in a desperate attempt to create obstacles, require ultrasound before abortion. Not for safety, but to show women their fetus, with a heart beating and little arms and feet.  To make women feel bad about killing such a little thing, even if it still has no functioning brain, no capacity to feel pain, no conscious will to live.

On the other hand, the same conservatives try to shield the agricultural industry, so that unconscious consumers of eggs, or hamburgers, have no awareness of the cruelty towards feeling adult animals involved in the creation of the meal. No pictures of sick caged hens on supermarket egg cartons or of movies of slaughterhouses at the butcher’s!

The new ultrasound law not only requires the medical procedure, but also requires that women know they have the option to hear a description of what is seen in the ultrasound, to receive a photograph of the ultrasound image and to view the ultrasound.
There is no exception for victims of rape or incest.
The lawsuit argues the ultrasound requirement is “unconstitutionally vague” because it doesn’t explain whether a person performing the ultrasound exam must try to force the woman to accept the envelope containing the photograph. The lawsuit also says it could violate a patient’s right to confidentiality by “exposing their private information to the risk of delivery by third parties.”
During legislative debate, supporters of the new law said they hoped the ultrasounds could dissuade women from getting an abortion by having to learn more about their pregnancies. Opponents said requiring a procedure that might not be available at a free clinic nearby will make it more difficult and costly for women to get
abortions.
The Center for Reproductive Rights has challenged similar ultrasound laws in other states.

Normally, human-stupidity is in favor of increasing consciousness. Though, this is more about emotional sentimentailsm then about intellectual awareness.  We also agree with abortion foes, in that i t would be better if abortions could be avoided. If not by abstinence then responsible sexuality with diligent use of birth control. We think these abortion ultrasound movies should be shown BEFORE women have unprotected sex that gets them pregnant in the first place. Of course, consciousness raising would also require showing movies about the hardship of unwed pregnancies and child rearing.

Now, interestingly, the same conservatives who want to increase women’s consciousness about their fetuses and their abortions, often decry birth control education in school sex ed.

The anti-abortion conservatives also normally back up the meat industry who actively hides their cruel activities  from the general populace.  The average meat eater would be appalled and turn vegetarian if he were constantly reminded of all the cruelty in industrial caged animal raising and slaughtering. Peter Singer, and many TV stations were consistently denied access to filming US industrial animal farming enterprises.

BLM & Wild Horses Roundup: Exaggerated Animal Rights Protection

In the Wild West of the USA, the Bureau of Land Management rounds up wild horses with expensive helicopters and keeps them on “retirement farms”, gives expensive birth control to mares, does everything to reduce the uncontrolled growth of horse herds. There are arguments that the animals are not natural and endemic to the regions, that cattle ranchers are greedy and don’t want grazing horses as a disturbance.

Good intentions cause ill side effects

I mix these animal rights in with “human rights”, because they come from the same attitude. Our inborn tenderness and goodness, badly and selectively applied, makes us take inconsistent decisions. We see one side of the coin and don’t think through the consequences of our laws.

Horses, cougars, bears, all animal populations under total protection will grow and expand. At some time there will be too many horses, with no predators. Cougars and bears are not hunted, they don’t respect people, endanger hikers and even US villagers when rummaging for food.  I am talking about Americans, because seems to care about African peasants whose harvests are trampled down by elefants and kids endangered by lions rummaging in the village.

Find the middle ground: don’t exterminate nor allow uncontrolled breeding

I never thought I would become a redneck, but I agree: hunt the bastards!

What are the alternatives to control by hunting?

  1. Let nature solve it! Let the animals spread to bearing capacity, until they overgraze and then starvation limits population.
  2. Or introduce predators, wolves etc whose large numbers also endanger our livestock and kids.
  3. or go to great expenses with constant efforts at birth control like it is being done now.

Definitely shoot some bears and cougars, who venture too close to humans. The shy ones will survive and be selected for. Hunt some horses to keep them at the desired numbers. Yes, sell hunting licenses, sell and eat the horse meat. Eating healthy happy range mustang meat is better in every respect (health,  morality, environment, carbon neutrality ….) then eating “concentration camp chicken” breast or corn fed cattle locked up in stalls.

Solutions

Horses are cute and our friends. They need total protection. They must not be killed, horse meat must not be eaten. Horse populations will grow too big at some time. If not now, then in 50 years. Advance population planning should have been made. Chicken, cows, are grown under “inhumane” conditions, unhealthy for consumers. High cost to energy usage, environmental damage, … Controlled hunting
Bears & Cougars must be protected from extinction and must not be hunted Dangerous animals lose fear of humans. It is easier to attack pets, livestock and smaller humans then to hunt scarce wild animals   Controlled Hunting

pretty shocking topics: from animal rights not to be eaten and slaughtered to “abortion” rights until after birth, mercy killings of babies that get born severely damages.
Singer thinks topics to the end. His main philosopy is minimizing suffering, creating the maximum of happiness. So there is a consistency in his thoughts that one should not kill poor cows, but severely crippled infants should be killed out of mercy.
