Disney retools obesity exhibit after National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance’s protest

Finally, Disney joins efforts to reduce the deadly childhood obesity. But fat acceptance is more important than our children’s health and survival.

The interactive exhibit, Habit Heroes, featured animated fitness superheroes Will Power and Callie Stenics and super-sized villains Snacker and Lead Bottom, who eat junk food and watch too much television. Critics said the exhibit reinforces stereotypes that obese children are lazy and have poor eating habits.

Doctors say obesity can sometimes be attributed to genetics and certain medications, and food can be used as a coping mechanism. "We’re appalled to learn that Disney, a traditional hallmark of childhood happiness and joy, has fallen under the shadow of negativity and discrimination," the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance said in a statement. 1

GluttonWell, maybe shaming could help prevent the use of food as coping mechanism. Tough love, shaming and strong pressure to eat right could probably save lots of children and adults from a life of fatness and ill health. Yes, adults also should be pressured to mend their unhealthy ways, improve their own health, and give positive examples to children.

We have always suggested that child food porn (junk food in deed and pictures deceptively posing as true food) is more dangerous then child porn. The former really kills children and reduces life expectancy of Millions, while the latter is mainly hysteria. So draconian measures against anything that seduces our innocent and ignorant children to acquire bad eating and exercising habits should be banned and punished. Well, at least it should be counter-acted by strong health-positive propaganda.

Walt Disney World got a lot of heat for jumping into the fight against childhood obesity with its Habit Heroes exhibit at Epcot — so much so that it has shut down the interactive exhibit co-sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield. 2

Just making more excuses for fat people. 40 years ago, nobody was obese, or even really overweight. Nowadays, kids don’t go outside and play, eat terrible food, and blame it on some problem other than their unhealthy habits. And now they think its ok because everyone else is overweight. Teacher Sex with 14 Year Old: 40 year Prison in USA, Acquittal in Germany

Germany: High court acquitted teacher for 22 sex acts with 14 year old student.
It voided a 2 year suspended sentence proffered by two lower courts

A a German appeal court voided of a lower court’s  suspended 2 year sentence for a 32 year old male teacher. He had sex with a 14 year old student on 22 occasions. The court decision is final. The court justified the decision:

  1. Sex with a 14 year olds is not a crime. Article 176 of the German penal code only covers sexual abuse of children under 14 years , unless it is paid (Art. 182) [6].
  2. According to the Penal Code Art 174 [6],  sexual abuse of wards occurs only when a minor under 18y has been entrusted to the offender "for the education, training or supervision". The student was not entrusted to the accused, because he only covered for the teacher’s absence and only gave very occasional classes to her. If he were her regular teacher, he would have been convicted [6].

The randomness of adolescent sex laws

Teenage sexuality is plagued by arbitrary laws which vary a lot over time and over places [1]. So much that children need a lawyer before playing doctor [8].

We think that it is the parents’ have the duty to supervise and educate their children and that parents have a right set limits for them [5].  German law is inspired by sensible sex positive realists.

The teacher still faces disciplinary action from the school. "Der Spiegel" calls the verdict "controversial". Sensationalist yellow press Bild calls it a "scandalous verdict" [6]. Parent organizations, press organs and the German Child Protection Association vehemently protests [6].

Women’s tennis: higher pay for weaker play, less work, less spectators, less advertising dollars

Women tennis players get  the same pay for less work (fewer shorter sets), lower performance (women are chanceless against any male top 500 player), less productivity (they have fewer spectators that pay less). In other words, women’s equal prize money gets subsidized  by the performance of the males.  Equal prize money actually leads to Wimbledon top 10 women getting higher pay then men. Women play shorter games, thus they have time to make extra money in more games, like doubles. Women also tend to get more sponsor money.  ESPN

Venus Williams, the defending champion and three-time winner, said the women simply want to be treated equally.

"This is not just about women’s tennis but about women all over the world," she told BBC Radio before Wimbledon’s announcement. "At Wimbledon we would like to have equal prize money to prove that we are equal on all fronts." 2

The same Venus Williams that was annihilated by #203 in the men’s ranking!  Such demagoguery . If women are "equal on all fronts", why do women need separate categories? Let them play against men, and whoever wins gets the prize.

Feminist success is admirable. The suffragettes got the vote without the draft. Today women get quotas for executive jobs but no quotas for death row.And now. equal pay for less work. Women  world-wide receive about twice as much pension money as they deserve: they contribute less and receive more then men.

One might perfectly say that a top class women tennis player should get the same money as an equally strong male player. Women’s #1 champions are chanceless against the Top 500 men. #203 ranked man totally annihilated both Williams sisters in one afternoon.   So why should the top ranked women be paid more then the male # 500 that plays better then she does, and who gets no prize whatsoever? ` When female player Chris Evert-Lloyd was at her peak, she said her brother who played low level college tennis beat her (authoritative source for this, anyone?)

We suspect that maybe women champions are chanceless against the top 10 000 male players. They are just to embarrassed to try. It sure would make an interesting project for college research or a TV series: Top 10 female Tennis Players against the #5 man of Stanford University.  It would be a serious blow to feminist equality claims, if the #1 ranked  woman champion loses against the #15 ranked man of an average College.  Political correctness has a vested interest to hide such facts.  Interestingly, women can not even compete with men in chess or snooker, where physical prowess is of no importance.

So if fewer spectators pay to see females play compared to the men, and broadcasters tolerate the women’s game rather than actively promote it, then how can they justify the equal prize money that some of them — most notably the Williams sisters — lobbied so forcefully for?  […]

I believe that athletes — especially female athletes in the world’s leading sport for women — should serve as role models. The message I like to convey to women and girls across the globe is that there is no glass ceiling. My fear is that Wimbledon is loudly and clearly sending the opposite message…. 5

In other words: If women, unjustly, get equal money for unequal work in sports, then it sends a message for women to get equal money for unequal work in the work place.

Similarly, the so called pay gap in the work place is a lie, which unfortunately is repeated even by the Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton.  Warren Farrell has proved that the pay gap is due to women’s work choices and that, due to affirmative action, women earn MORE for same work.

70 year olds, children, midgets, featherweights, handicapped:  justice and equality for all

Let us get equal prize money for the children’s tennis champion, the over 70 year old master’s champions (they spent 60 years training, and thus should get bigger prizes), the handicapped people’s special Olympics champion. After all, they are all champions! One should not discriminate by age or handicap! And of course, the featherweight boxer should get the same prize money as the heavy weight champion of all categories. What about a midget category in basket ball? Why should midgets get paid less then Michael Jordan?

The history of vibrators (2): 2500 years of medical orgasm therapy for hysteria

For over 2500 years, the medical profession helped the large percentage of (well off) women suffering from hysteria by regularly inducing "hysterical paroxysm”, aka orgasm.

What in the world were doctors doing vibrating their female patients to orgasm? The simple answer is that their fingers got tired. The complicated answer is delivered in Maines’s short, stimulating, repetitive and occasionally frustrating book, ”The Technology of Orgasm: ‘Hysteria,’ the Vibrator, and Women’ s Sexual Satisfaction.”

The vibrator, Maines argues, is the last in a long line of devices and techniques that were used to combat hysteria. Beginning with Hippocrates and running through Galen, Avicenna, Paracelsus, Pare, Burton and Harvey, all the way up to the mid-20th century, doctors fought valiantly against this terrible disease. The trouble was that the disease they were fighting, Maines explains, was ordinary female sexual desire. The classic symptoms of hysteria — ”anxiety, sleeplessness, irritability, nervousness, erotic fantasy, sensations of heaviness in the abdomen, lower pelvic edema and vaginal lubrication” — are the symptoms of chronic arousal.  NYT

Descriptions   of this treatment appear in the Hippocratic corpus, the works  of Celsus in the first century A.D., those of Aretaeus, Soranus, and Galen  in the second century, that of Aetius and Moschion in the sixth century,the anonymous eighth- or ninth-century work Liber de Muliebria, the  writings of Rhazes and Avicenna in the following century, of Ferrari da  Gradi in the fifteenth century, of Paracelsus and Pare in the sixteenth, of  Burton, Claudini, Harvey, Highmore, Rodrigues de Castro, Zacuto, and  Horst in the seventeenth, of Mandeville, Boerhaave, and Cullen in the  eighteenth, and in the works of numerous nineteenth-century authors  including Pinel, Gall, Tripier, and Briquet.2 Given the ubiquity of these  descriptions in the medical literature, it is surprising that the character  and purpose of these massage treatments for hysteria and related disorders   have received little attention from historians.

The authors listed above, and others in the history of Western medicine,   describe a medical treatment for a complaint that is no longer defined   as a disease but that from at the least the fourth century B.C. until  the American Psychiatric Association dropped the term in 1952, was  known mainly as hysteria.3
